Portlanders exploring their weekend entertainment plans via TV, radio, and online discovered that Jerry Mouawad's production of Salome at Imago Theatre is receiving recommendations on all three platforms. Who's spreading the word outside of critics Rosemarie Stein at The Oregonian and Linda Ferguson at Oregon ArtsWatch?
KOIN's Morning Anchors Emily Burris and Travis Teich spoke to actors Diane Slamp (Herodias) and Max Bersohn (John the Baptist) about the production which Bersohn noted has been injected with a bit of Star Trek and Dracula by director Jerry Mouawad. Or as Burris put it: "Portland's theater scene is giving it the stumptown twist." (Watch video here.)
KBOO's Words and Pictures program spotlit a few dramatic audio clips from the show as host S.W. Conser conversed with Mouawad and Slamp (as well as me, who adapted the script for a smaller cast). As Mouawad admitted, the fantastical, imaginative nature of the material lends itself to "taking the possibility of what a character is to an extreme." (Hear interview here.)
Oregon ArtsWatch published my piece delving into how I came to join the production and what I did once I had: "...one of the beauties of working with Jerry – which I have done repeatedly – is that each production is an adventure into unfamiliar terrain." (Read article here.)
Salome opens Fri., Apr. 11 at 7:30pm then runs Sun., Apr. 27. Don't miss it! (Click here for ticket info.)
