Theater: The Land of Mystery (A Radio Play)

I've always been pretty terrible at saving documentation of previous productions. This shortsighted shortcoming is partly rooted in my belief that a video or a photograph is never going to accurately capture what happened on the stage so why bother. The weathered contact sheet pictured above dates back to the late 1990s when I was doing dancetheatre pieces with choreographer Jennifer Allen, this one being The Land of Mystery. The work was performed in a few different incarnations at Judson Memorial Church (via their Movement Research series) and Dixon Place in New York City, as well as Echo Theatre in Portland, Oregon. But the evening I remember most vividly is the night we dropped the dance component completely and performed it as a radio play as the closing act in a concert of experimental accordion music by Miss Murgatroid (b.k.a. Alicia J. Rose). An audio recording of that Allen/Pisarra production is available to stream for free at roulette.org; the "mystery" itself starts around the 43 minute mark.
