Theater: Vermont Studio Center Residency

Earlier this month, I spent three weeks at an artists residency in Johnson, Vermont. During that time, I wrote over 20 poems, started a new play entitled The Stations of Martha Cross, and made quite a number of new friends. Indeed, there were 38 members in the cohort and not a bad apple in the bunch. In the back row in the photo above are (L-R), Kathy Lou Schultz, Lara Glenum, Kevin Gardner, John Hanright, Lisa Brock, David Fisk, Ellen Mansfield, Raylee Schobel, Jeanine Burgdorf, Katie Karnehm-Esh, Cameron Marcoux, Adam Porter, Sara Torres-Albert, Elizabeth Sims, Becca Kantor, Ann Getsinger, Sarah Holloway, Michael Walden, Ben Lang, Linda Spitsen, Ed Harris, Maggie Feldman, D Derek, Markus Denil, Ben Steinhorn, and Lucas Biagini. In the front row (L-R) are Cal Thompson, Serene Chen, Burak Cevik, me, Caitlin Canchola, Catherine Webb, Miranda Pikul, Karen Kuo, Breanne Bandur, Beth Johnston, and Julius Cavira. If it seems like a cop-out to recap a residency with a list of names, my primary defense is these people are all worth mentioning. It was a wonderful experience. If you're wondering why I've categorized this as theater, my reasoning is I was awarded this residency as a playwright and that fact inspired me to work on the evening-length monologue mentioned above.
